Wow, I haven’t done a WWW Wednesday in almost two months. Where the heck have I been?
May and June have been very busy for me personally. Besides my main job, my part-time role with the local Autism Society of America chapter has taken up some time. And in June, most of my time off was to prep our house and yard for my daughter’s graduation party (read more about that here), which was all for naught on the outdoor front. After a month of no rain, it rained hard all. dang. day, so the party stayed inside. I’ve got a long list of audio books that need review, but my actual reading has been scant except for NetGalley ARCs. This past weekend I was able to spend some time writing up blog posts for the next few weeks, so I won’t be a stranger anymore.
Now, to answer the three important questions, What have I been reading, What have I read, what do I plan on reading?
What am I reading/listening to?
Triumph: The Untold Story of Jesse Owens and Hitler’s Olympics by Jeremy Schaap. Just in time for this year’s Olympics, I thought I’d read the story of Jesse Owens, who metaphorically gave Hitler the middle finger at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. I’d seen a documentary on Jesse Owens several years ago and always wanted to read more about him. I borrowed this book from our library’s Overdrive service. I am woefully behind on reading library books for this year’s Library Love Reading Challenge.
I’m also listening to Abdication, by Juliet Nicolson, a book released in 2012 but I’ve only just discovered. It’s about one of my much-visited subjects: King Edward VIII’s decision to abdicate his throne so he could marry twice-divorced American, Wallis Simpson.
What did I finish reading/listening to?
What do I plan on reading/listening to in the future?
I was approached by the publisher to read a historical fiction novel of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis’ time in Paris before she got married. I just received the ARC and will be reviewing Jackie’s Paris ahead of it’s July 28th publication date.
I’m a big Olympic junkie, so I think I’ll be reading The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, an ebook I picked up on sale a while back. Of course, it goes without saying that I’ll have the Tokyo Olympics on in the background while I read.
What are you reading/listening to this week? Let me know in the comments. Happy reading!
