Where did the week go? I was crazy busy with work and my husband and kids and well, life! Things will slow down for me starting next week. It’s officially the slow season at work, so my hours have been cut, but I don’t mind. After making it through the holiday season with 40+ hours a week, it’s nice to be able to take a breather. And the perfect way to take a breather is to read.
Today’s Kindle Deals feature something for everyone. I was very happy to get a Kennedy book, written by a Kennedy, for only $1.99! I’ve read it before and really liked it, so I’m happy to add it to my collection. As always, nothing is over $2.99 and some Kindle books are free!
The Lost Daughter: A Novel by Gill Paul. $1.99 Gill Paul is turning out to be one of my favorite writers. I absolutely adored Jackie and Maria (read my review here). She always seems to write about historical periods or people that I’m interested in.
1918: Pretty, vivacious Grand Duchess Maria Romanov, the nineteen-year-old daughter of the fallen Tsar Nicholas II, lives with her family in suffocating isolation, a far cry from their once-glittering royal household. Her days are a combination of endless boredom and paralyzing fear; her only respite are clandestine flirtations with a few of the guards imprisoning the family—never realizing her innocent actions could mean the difference between life and death
1973: When Val Doyle hears her father’s end-of-life confession, “I didn’t want to kill her,” she’s stunned. So, she begins a search for the truth—about his words and her past. The clues she discovers are baffling—a jewel-encrusted box that won’t open and a camera with its film intact. What she finds out pulls Val into one of the world’s greatest mysteries—what truly happened to the Grand Duchess Maria?
The Nine of Us: Growing Up Kennedy by Jean Kennedy Smith $1.99 I will most likely read and review this book this year, so stay tuned to this page! In her remarkable memoir, Kennedy Smith—the last surviving sibling (FYI: Kennedy Smith has since died)—revisits this singular time in their lives. Filled with fascinating anecdotes and vignettes, and illustrated with dozens of family pictures, The Nine of Us vividly depicts this large, close-knit family during a different time in American history. Kennedy Smith offers indelible, elegantly rendered portraits of her larger-than-life siblings and her parents. “They knew how to cure our hurts, bind our wounds, listen to our woes, and help us enjoy life,” she writes. “We were lucky children indeed.”
Furious Love: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and the Marriage of the Century $1.99 (Read my Review HERE)
Pride: A Pride & Prejudice Remix by Ibi Zoboi $2.99
In a timely update of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, National Book Award finalist Ibi Zoboi skillfully balances cultural identity, class, and gentrification against the heady magic of first love in her vibrant reimagining of this beloved classic. A smart, funny, gorgeous retelling starring all characters of color.
Inheriting Edith: A Novel by Zoe Fishman $1.99
A poignant breakout novel, for fans ofJ. Courtney Sullivan and Elin Hilderbrand, about a single mother who inherits a beautiful beach house with a caveat—she must take care of the ornery elderly woman who lives in it.
For years, Maggie Sheets has been an invisible hand in the glittering homes of wealthy New York City clients, scrubbing, dusting, mopping, and doing all she can to keep her head above water as a single mother. Everything changes when a former employer dies leaving Maggie a staggering inheritance. A house in Sag Harbor. The catch? It comes with an inhabitant: The deceased’s eighty-two-year old mother Edith.
Edith has Alzheimer’s—or so the doctors tell her—but she remembers exactly how her daughter Liza could light up a room, or bring dark clouds in her wake. And now Liza’s gone, by her own hand, and Edith has been left—like a chaise or strand of pearls—to a poorly dressed young woman with a toddler in tow.
Maggie and Edith are both certain this arrangement will be an utter disaster. But as summer days wane, a tenuous bond forms, and Edith, who feels the urgency of her diagnosis, shares a secret that she’s held close for five decades, launching Maggie on a mission that might just lead them each to what they are looking for.

The Original Black Elite: Daniel Murray and the Story of a Forgotten Era $1.99
In this outstanding cultural biography, the author of the New York Times bestseller A Slave in the White House chronicles a critical yet overlooked chapter in American history: the inspiring rise and calculated fall of the black elite, from Emancipation through Reconstruction to the Jim Crow Era—embodied in the experiences of an influential figure of the time, academic, entrepreneur, and political activist and black history pioneer Daniel Murray.
In the wake of the Civil War, Daniel Murray, born free and educated in Baltimore, was in the vanguard of Washington, D.C.’s black upper class. Appointed Assistant Librarian at the Library of Congress—at a time when government appointments were the most prestigious positions available for blacks—Murray became wealthy through his business as a construction contractor and married a college-educated socialite. The Murrays’ social circles included some of the first African-American U.S. Senators and Congressmen, and their children went to the best colleges—Harvard and Cornell.
Though Murray and other black elite of his time were primed to assimilate into the cultural fabric as Americans first and people of color second, their prospects were crushed by Jim Crow segregation and the capitulation to white supremacist groups by the government, which turned a blind eye to their unlawful—often murderous—acts. Elizabeth Dowling Taylor traces the rise, fall, and disillusionment of upper-class African Americans, revealing that they were a representation not of hypothetical achievement but what could be realized by African Americans through education and equal opportunities.
Kardashian Dynasty: The Controversial Rise of America’s Royal Family $2.99 Based on extensive research, Ian Halperin delivers the salacious details behind the Kardashians’ rise to fame. With revelations exposing the family’s foundation as unstable at best and scandalous at worst, Halperin scrutinizes their self-made multi-million dollar brand and provides an unparalleled glimpse into the events and scandals that have propelled the Kardashians to worldwide celebrity, for better or worse.
Star Trek: Signature Edition: Imzadi Forever (Star Trek: The Next Generation) $.99
Imzadi: to the people of the planet Betazed, including Counselor Deanna Troi of the Starship Enterprise,™ it means “beloved” and denotes that which can never be truly broken.
Yet to whom does Deanna’s heart truly belong?
Commander William Riker was the first Deanna called Imzadi. Long before they served together on board the Enterprise, they shared a tempestuous love affair back on Betazed. And even now, many years later, Riker will embark on a desperate journey across time and space to save Deanna’s life.
But Riker is not the only Starfleet officer to capture Deanna’s heart. Lieutenant Commander Worf, the fierce Klingon warrior, is also drawn to Deanna’s gentle and caring nature. Brought together by fate, he and Deanna share an unexpected passion that tests the bonds between Troi and Riker—even as a deadly Romulan conspiracy threatens them all!
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Triangle: Imzadi II $.99 In his acclaimed earlier novel, Imzadi, bestselling author Peter David explored the special bond between Deanna Troi and Commander William T. Riker. It revealed new facets of their long and intimate relationship and put that bond to its ultimate test in a powerful and unforgettable story that remains one of the most popular Star Trek® adventures ever published. Imzadi was a New York Times bestseller in both hardcover and paperback.
Now David examines the heart of Deanna Troi from an altogether different perspective, as he reveals for the first time the full story of Troi’s troubled romance with Lieutenant Commander Worf.
At first glance, they cannot be more different. She is an empath, gentle and acutely sensitive to the needs and feelings of others. He is a fierce Klingon warrior, dedicated to a harsh and warlike code of honor. Brought together, however, by a common need to care for Alexander, Worf’s troubled, motherless son, they discover hidden reserves of courage and compassion within each other.
Soon mutual respect leads to much stronger emotions as they embark on an unexpected courtship, much to the surprise and discomfort of William Riker.
But does Worf’s future truly lie with Deanna…or on a distant outpost called Deep Space 9™? And whom indeed shall Troi ultimately call “imzadi”?
