Music Monday: Snow from White Christmas by Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney

Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek.  I saw it at Carrie’s Book Reviews and _For Book’s Sake. You pick a song and/or video and share it on Mondays to change things up a little.

I don’t like snow. I don’t think I even liked it as a kid. I preferred to stay inside and read my Nancy Drew books, thank you very much. But Wisconsin is home, and with that comes a lot of snow each year. It was just two years ago we had a blizzard that dropped 24 inches of snow in about 36 hours. Luckily for us, we have a roof over our head, a healthy stockpile of food, and an Ariens 24″ wide, whole lotta horse power electric-start snow blower to get us through the December-April season of the yucky white stuff. I’ve lived here all my life, and I am so over it.

But one of my favorite holiday songs is “Snow” (which can be found on The Voice of Christmas: The Complete Decca Christmas Songbook) (Amazon) (AbeBooks) from one of my favorite holiday movies, White Christmas (Amazon). My husband calls me Jennifer Christmas because of my huge collection of Christmas memorabilia: theme trees (about ten, but it used to be more, I’m slowly whittling them down), Christmas CDs and Holiday movies (not just Christmas). One year when I was still home without a job but the kids in school, I watched all my Christmas DVDs, a couple a day. It took weeks to get through! I actually have two copies of The Voice of Christmas–one for the house and one for my car. It’s in regular rotation during the holidays.

Snow, snow, snow, snow, snow
It won’t be long before we’ll all be there with snow
Snow, snow, I want to wash my hands, my face and hair with snow
Snow, I long to clear a path and lift a spade of snow
Snow, oh, to see a great big man entirely made of snow, snow

Where it’s snowing, all winter through
That’s where I want to be
Snowball throwing, that’s what I’ll do
How I’m longing to ski, through the snow

Those glistening houses that seem to be built of snow
Snow, oh, to see a mountain covered with a quilt of snow
What is Christmas with no snow
No white Christmas with no snow, snow

I’ll soon be there with snow, I’ll wash my hair with snow
And with a spade of snow, I’ll build a man that’s made of snow
I’d love to stay up with you but I recommend a little shuteye
Go to sleep and dream of snow, snow, snow, snow
