What are you currently reading?

I’m listening to the audiobook of former President Barack Obama’s A Promised Land, A Promised Land

  Audible Audiobook – Unabridged which was just released yesterday. I’m about half way through and hope to finish the book this weekend. Normally I listen to audiobooks at work, but for the holiday season, I will be helping out our retail division’s online order fulfillment in the warehouse and won’t be able to listen to audiobooks until after the holidays are over. So I guess I’ll be listening to the rest of the book over the weekend and giving a review shortly thereafter.

I’m also listening to Bezonomics: How Amazon Is Changing Our Lives, and What the World’s Best Companies Are Learning from It  Audible Audiobook – Unabridged (Amazon) (AbeBooks)

After reading just how invasive Facebook is in our lives, no matter how private you make your account (you can read my review of Facebook: The Inside Story by clicking here), I was recommended a couple of books, one on Instagram called No Filter: The Inside Story of Instagram (Amazon) (AbeBooks) that is on my short list TBR pile and Bezonomics (Amazon) (AbeBooks). I’ve been shopping on Amazon since buying and selling textbooks when I was in college back in 1996, just a year after they started, so I’ve been a longtime supporter of the company. Heck, I’m even an Amazon affiliate, meaning any time you head to Amazon through my links and make a purchase, I earn a few pennies to help support this blog (seriously, PENNIES, but they are all appreciated!) But I have concerns over how big the company is getting, and how ingrained they are becoming to our society as a whole. So far this is an interesting listen.

What did you recently finish reading?

Everything Beautiful in Its Time: Seasons of Love and Loss by Jenna Bush Hager (Amazon) (AbeBooks). I had just finished Sisters First: Stories from Our Wild and Wonderful Life (Amazon) (AbeBooks) by Jenna and her sister Barbara when this book was announced and knew I had to read it. As you can see, I’m completely non-partisan when it comes to reading about the presidents. I didn’t always agree with her Gampy or Dad when they were president, just like I didn’t always agree with Obama, but always respected the Bush presidents, probably even more once they were out of office. And Jenna is always quick to point out she does/did not always agree with her dad/grandad’s decisions while in office. I always found it odd that the kid who was famously caught sticking her tongue out at the press when her dad, George W. Bush, was president, should become a member of the media. Her tales about her family are really interesting, and she talks equally about her mother’s family as much as the Bush family.

I also finished  Can’t Slow Down: How 1984 Became Pop’s Blockbuster Year, which is an ARC from NetGalley. It has to be one of my favorite year for music, as I am most definitely a Generation X child of the 80s. It’s released in December so look for a review in the next few weeks.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m gearing up for a new Netflix series that premieres on Christmas Day by visiting the Bridgertons. There’s a 3-volume set on Kindle for sale right now (click here for more info) It Includes The Duke and I, The Viscount Who Loved Me, and An Offer From a Gentleman. Set between 1813 and 1827, the Bridgerton Series is a collection of novels, each featuring one of the eight children of the late Viscount Bridgerton.

I also have a few more ARCs from NetGalley that I need to get to before the new year and I’d like to get to them sooner rather than later.
