I am so excited for today’s Kindle deals because one of the titles is a new release I’ve been wanting to read, but my library just finally got around to buying it and it is still being catalogued, with a hold list an arm long, and another book I picked up from the library recently but won’t have time to read before it has to be returned. Many of the books on today’s list are recent releases or classics. Here’s a closer look at some of the deals:

Fast Girls: A Novel of the 1936 Women’s Olympic Team. $1.99 This book is the one I was talking about above. I hoped and hoped and waited for my library to get this title in their collection when it was released in July. I even made a request for purchase and they finally did, and the hold list is steadily growing for it. Apparently I’m not the only one interested in this book.

In the 1928 Olympics, Chicago’s Betty Robinson competes as a member of the first-ever women’s delegation in track and field. Destined for further glory, she returns home feted as America’s Golden Girl until a nearly-fatal airplane crash threatens to end everything.

The Mouse and the Motorcycle (Ralph Mouse Book 1), $1.99 Oh, man, did I love this classic book series by Beverly Cleary! I still have my original copy from childhood, but I did decide to downsize the thousands of children’s books I had and getting them on my kindle is a good option.

East Coast Girls, $2.99 I just picked this book up from the library two weeks ago because I heard such good things about it. This book just came out on May 26, 2020, so a sale on a highly-rated and best selling book is fantastic for bargain sleuths like me!

The Pilgrim’s Regress by C.S. Lewis $1.99

The first book written by C. S. Lewis after his conversion, The Pilgrim’s Regress is, in a sense, the record of Lewis’s own search for meaning and spiritual satisfaction—a search that eventually led him to Christianity.

Here is the story of the pilgrim John and his odyssey to an enchanting island which has created in him an intense longing; a mysterious, sweet desire. Though the dragons and giants here are different from those in Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress, Lewis’s allegory performs the same function of enabling the author to say simply and through fantasy what would otherwise have demanded a full-length philosophy of religion.
