On Goodreads, mystery writer Laurie R. King has a Virtual Book Club and her August pick was Ice Blue (Lord and Lady Hetheridge Mystery Series Book 1). I was happy to discover that I could get this book on my Kindle for free right now.
Ice Blue is rated 4.05 out of 5 stars on Goodreds, and 4.4 out of 5 on Amazon.com. If you liked Elizabeth George’s Inspector Lynley Mysteries, you might be interested in this series, as it is in the same vein. The book is not very long, either (173 pages), so it could be read in one afternoon.
But beware, there are crude sexual remarks and content, as well as a character stereotyping Muslims. And some people don’t care for the 30-year age difference between the two main characters. You’ve been warned.
“What made Ice Blue such pleasurable reading was not the murder or even the Police procedure, but the rather wonderful cast of characters that the author, Emma Jameson, has created to populate her world. In the space of about 184 pages, Emma has managed to give us a whole collection of individuals, each very nicely rounded out and real. Even very minor players – such as the tall PC who finds the pistol seems to be alive and obviously has a life outside the book.” — Tony Cole, eBookanoid.com
As I mentioned, Ice Blue is FREE on Kindle right now, and the Laurie R. King Virtual Book Club starts August 1.
